ENJO Facilitator Programme

The programme offered by ENJO Consultants is based on the following Unit Standard registered by SAQA on the NQF.

SAQA ID US Title NQF Level Credits
117871 Facilitate learning using a variety of methodologies 5 10

This is a generic programme that focuses on the following specific outcomes:

  • Plan and prepare for facilitation
  • Facilitate learning
  • Evaluate learning and facilitation

It thus looks at each of these steps of facilitation in detail but also generically. This approach is based on the assumption that all facilitation of learning in all different fields would be based on the same sequence and framework.

Questions that are often raised:

  • Why is the unit standard on an NQF level 5?
  • I have an NQF level 6, 7 or even 10 qualification. Why should I do a unit standard that is lower than my current level?
  • The list of questions relating to the level is endless, but all the questions raise that one concern – Why can I not do the same programme on an NQF level that is equal to my current qualifications.

The answer in a nutshell:

  • The NQF level that is assigned to a unit standard or qualification is based on the SAQA level descriptors, which in turn are benchmarked internationally
  • These level descriptors are based on the cognitive and skills demands required by the specific unit standard/qualification – in this case facilitation.
  • The golden rule that is always overlooked is that the Facilitator needs to be a subject matter expert in the subject or field in which he/she wishes to facilitate.
  • This means he/she needs to be at least on a level higher than his/her learners.
  • Subject matter expertise is based on qualifications and experience within the specific subject the specialisation in a specific field
  • the training needs of the learners
  • the or field.
  • A person who has an NQF level 10 qualification can thus facilitate and assess learners right up to an NQF level 10.

All facilitation is thus guided by:

  • level of the learners
  • the environment in which learning has to take place
  • the expected outcome
